Rehab 4 Addiction

Are you worried about someone in your life whom you believe may be addicted to drugs or alcohol? Are you questioning how far things will go before they seek professional help? Do you think they would benefit from residing in a rehab clinic in the Merseyside area?

Seeing someone you know suffering from addiction can be tragic to witness. You may see them change before your very eyes and wonder how it even happened. You may have tried to help them before but to no avail.

Often those with drug and alcohol addictions fail to see how severe their addiction is. Perhaps you have only just recognised the signs of addiction in a friend or a loved one and are blaming yourself for not spotting the symptoms earlier.

Whatever the issue, you cannot blame yourself. When someone you know is struggling with an addiction, they will try their hardest to keep it a secret. You may only begin to see the signs when the addiction reaches severe new heights.

What can I do to help?

You may believe, for example, that if a family member is battling an addiction you are required to do everything in your power to help. If you are not medically and professionally trained to deal with addictions, you cannot allow yourself to be responsible for providing treatment.

There are many ways you can offer support without trying to ‘cure’ the addicted person. This could be, but is not limited to:

  • Offering to help financially, if you are able. Rehab can be costly but is the most effective way to recover from an addiction. You could offer your friend or your loved one a loan or payment towards their stay which may help ease their anxiety around the financial aspect of treatment. But please only do so if you are able, do not get yourself into debt as there are other ways of accessing rehab safely
  • Listening and offering support. This will be one of the most crucial elements as they seek treatment. They may be feeling lonely and isolated but by offering encouragement and support whilst they find and enter treatment, they can feel motivated to enter recovery successfully
  • Value their feelings. People suffering from drug and alcohol addictions often experience extreme mood swings, this is not necessarily aimed towards you, although it may feel hurtful. When suffering from addiction the way an individual act is not a true representation of themselves. As a friend or loved one it is important if you want the addicted individual to seek help, that you encourage them on their journey and intently value things they tell you. Some conversations may feel awkward or sad to have but it is important to start talking
