Recognising the first signs of drug or alcohol addiction

It can be very difficult to identify an addiction problem in yourself, although it’s often likely that others have noticed changes in your behaviours. If friends and family or other people that care about you mention your substance use in a negative light, it can be a good indicator that you are heading towards an addiction problem.

It can be easy to become defensive, but try to pause and remember that your health is their major concern, even if they don’t articulate that well.

Other key things to look for are:

  • You think about using drugs and or alcohol constantly
  • You feel worried or stressed if you’re unable to afford or obtain substances
  • The amount or regularity of your consumption increases over time
  • You need larger quantities of your chosen substance to achieve the desired effect
  • You begin to make ill-informed choices in other areas of your life
  • Mental health issues form, from anxiety and depression to more serious personality disorders
  • You continue to use drugs and/or alcohol habitually, despite knowing the potential harm you are doing to yourself

How to source suitable rehab treatment in Camberwell

Once you’ve taken the first step, which is admitting that you need help, it’s time to find suitable help and support. Although some people decide to recover independently, there is very little success in achieving sustainable recovery without professional help.

We can take you through a simple assessment over the phone, which will help us to determine the severity of your addiction and what the best type of treatment program is, based upon that assessment.

We will help you to decide where is best to attend your recovery treatment programme, and can offer partner facilities in the Camberwell area, or throughout the UK, should you wish to recover away from home.

We will, of course, also take your budget and any pre-existing physical or mental health needs that you may have into consideration.

Our partners across the UK are able to offer both residential and outpatient services, however, the severity of your addiction will determine which offers you the best opportunity to recover.

What to expect from a residential rehab programme

Detox is usually the initial treatment with your tailored residential. Whilst there are risks involved with drug and alcohol detox, and we do not recommend that you attempt to do so alone, attending a detox clinic as a part of a residential rehab programme offers the safest and most comfortable detox experience available.

All of our partners are regulated by the CQC (Care Quality Commission), which means they are duty-bound to offer a high level of care. The medically assisted detox will be carried out gradually to minimise the withdrawal symptoms that you may experience.

Once you’ve achieved sobriety, you will be ready to tackle the psychological connection that you have formed with drugs and/or alcohol.

A range of professional psychotherapy treatments will be available to you, including a personal addiction counsellor. You will have the opportunity to take advantage of a wide range of treatments that are widely believed to provide the highest success rates for drug and alcohol addiction recovery.

These include:

You will leave rehab armed with a comprehensive relapse prevention plan, which will help you to maintain your sobriety in your life after rehab.

What happens when I leave rehab?

Although leaving the rehabilitation centre can be daunting, you will not be left to manage alone. There are at least 12 months of aftercare services included with all residential rehab programmes that are arranged through our partner services.

You will also be provided with contact lists for local abstinence-based motivational groups in the Camberwell area.
