Rehab 4 Addiction

Drug & Alcohol Rehab in Stratford

Much like the process of recovery itself, looking for drug and alcohol rehab in Stratford, or anywhere else, can be a stressful and overwhelming experience if you’re doing it alone.

Fortunately, you don’t have to face this all by yourself. Rehab 4 Addiction offers expert professional guidance to anyone struggling with addiction. And here, if you’re confused about anything in this process, we’ll give you some advice on where to go next.

Why are you seeking help?

This is probably the first question you should ask yourself before reaching out. Why are you doing this? What is your core motivation? When you understand that, it will be much easier to move forward.

It will make it easier to keep motivated through what can be a long and hard process and it may help you with mental health treatments like therapy and counselling.

To be more specific, making a list of the reasons why you’re doing this could be a good thing to do on your own before you get started with any treatment.

If you’re still unsure about whether rehab or addiction treatment in general is for you, there are a few key signals that a person needs help, which you could look out for. Some of the most significant ones are:

  • If you can’t stop using the thing you’re potentially addicted to, no matter how much it harms you
  • The thing you’re addicted to is harming you, physically, mentally or in both ways
  • If people around you or close to you are being harmed
  • If people around you or close to you have noticed changes in your behaviour

If any of those apply to you, then it could be a good time to reach out and get help. It’s never too soon to get help – waiting will typically only make the problem worse, meaning more intensive treatment could be required in the long run. Or it may become too late to get help altogether.

Kinds of treatment and why they’re important

You might have noticed us mention mental health treatments earlier – now we’re going to look into those and some other kinds of treatment more specifically.

The first stage of treatment through Rehab 4 Addiction is a simple assessment, to discuss your specific circumstances. After that, your personal path should become clearer and actual treatment can begin.

The first kind of treatment usually offered to those getting help from Rehab 4 Addiction is a detox, to get any and all addictive substances out of your system before you start with anything else.

This applies to both inpatient and outpatient treatment, although the kind of detox you go through will likely be different in both environments.

Speaking of inpatient vs outpatient (essentially at home/more localised vs residential), this is where the treatments you’re offered will probably start to diverge more. If you choose not to go to a residential facility, after a detox you’ll most likely be offered a mixture of therapy/counselling and support groups.

As an aside, because we made the distinction between therapy and counselling, you may be wondering what the difference is. Essentially, counselling is more generalised whilst therapy is more specialised. Again, whichever one you’re more directed towards will largely depend on your personal circumstances.

Two other kinds of therapy often applied in these circumstances are talking therapy (where you talk to a therapist, as the name would suggest) and group therapy, which is similar to the support groups that we’re going to discuss shortly.

Physical treatments are also often part of the healing process. The two most common kinds of physical treatment in addiction are massages and reflexology.

The latter is sometimes called zone therapy, where pressure is applied to specific points on the patient’s feet and hands. These might not seem as significant as detoxing or receiving assistance for mental health issues, but they do serve a specific purpose.

They help you to relax and recover emotionally so that those other treatments can work more effectively.

Finally, support groups such as alcoholics anonymous can also be an important part of both inpatient and outpatient plans. Seeing other people in the same situation as you and hearing about their struggles whilst speaking about yours can be incredibly beneficial.
